Free Homeopathic Medicine Distribution

Sandesham appreciates the help and support from Dr. Lily and team SEVGI.

Free of cost homeopathic medicines for strengthening the immune system were distributed by the Homeopathic doctor. Besides medicines clothes, bedsheets and blankets were also distributed on November 18th at Lord Mahavira School location.

SEVGI, an eco friendly venture is helping Sandesham by contributing a percentage of their profits. They were present at the distribution to show their support and provide encouragement to the team.

School reopens in November

Sandesham is very happy to announce the reopening of evening classes from 19th November onwards.

Dr. Lilly Muninder will visit on 19th November to give homeopathic immunity boosters to all students. We are taking every measure to ensure social distancing and safety of all staff and children. It will be a strict one student per bench to minimize risks. Temperature measuring machine will be in place to check the temperature of every person entering the facility.

Masks and sanitizers are mandatory for in person classes. We at Sandesham are looking forward to the start of the session and wish everyone all the very best.

Second successful distribution of food

Under lockdown, well-off Indians isolate indoors, work from home and get groceries delivered. But outside their windows, it's a different story: Poor laborers amass in the streets, hungry and homeless.

This is exactly what our children's families are facing. Most of the parents of these children are day laborers, drivers, construction workers or domestic help and have no source of income or savings to feed their families. Sandesham has decided to distribute essential food items to all the families of their children every 15 days. Our second phase of distribution of wheat flour, rice, lentils, oil, turmeric, and salt was done on June 9th.

We are grateful to all the members and staff who participated in the morning for this noble cause. Special thanks to Mrs. Neelam Verma, Komal, Lalita, and Rachana for successfully executing the event. Our next distribution is scheduled for 10th July.

Distribution of food supplies

Since the onset of the COVID-19 outbreak in India at the beginning of March, the source of income for many families has stopped. The parents of our Sandesham students have no means to feed their families so education suddenly has become a low priority. We are asking for donations in any form to help out these families.

On June 1st we distributed 40 packs of wheat flour, rice, lentils, turmeric, and salt. We are striving to continue this effort every 20 days to help out these families. Our second distribution is scheduled for June 9th. Any support from the members and non members is highly appreciated.

COVID-19 Prevention and Precaution

With the rapid rise of Corona virus cases around the world, Sandesham held a special education session for all the children.

Basic education for prevention and precaution was provided to the children.

Following is what everyone should do:

1) Don't Panic.

2) Keep your hands clean and wash them regularly with soap and water for 20 seconds. Sing A B C's which is about 20 seconds.

3) Wash your hands after going to the bathroom or playing outside.

3) Drink lemon water for Vitamin C.

4) Stay home if you are sick. Always cough with a cloth around your mouth.

5) Keep your surroundings clean. Don't throw trash on the streets.

The symptoms of this flu like illness is dry itchy cough, fever and difficulty in breathing. There are not a lot of cases in kids. Be careful around your grandparents and be safe.

Exam Review Sessions

Parent Teachers Meeting

On Basant Panchami we held our parent teachers meeting for all grades.

Updates were provided to the parents about their children and they were given additional guidance about parenting and importance of education.

Saraswati Pooja with prayers and songs were performed by our team and students. We had a special visitor today who distributed notebooks and toffee to all the children. We are very grateful for her generosity.

Republic Day Celebration

Sandesham celebrated Republic day at LMS School today as a sports activity.

Republic day is an occasion to reaffirm our commitment to unity in diversity, fraternity and equality among all citizens.

Children enthusiastically participated in the spoon race, lemon race, three legged race, and balancing the book race. There were speeches on Republic Day and also a Quiz competition. Refreshments were served at the end of the day.

We are thankful to LMS school for providing us their facility to host our event and to our dedicated volunteers and teachers for making this a huge success.

Holiday Celebrations

When it comes to the holidays, the Sandesham team comes out in full force. It is a magical time of the year and our team tries to bring some magic into the lives of our children and their families.

During these festive times it is very important to be aware that many families around us are struggling just to put food on the table. The Sandesham team distributed blankets along with refreshments to all the children. Woolens were also distributed to help bear the bitter winter in Noida.

Class awards were distributed for academics, full attendance and hygiene. Health and hygiene is our top priority and we believe that good habits are essential to keep our students healthy with a healthy mind.

Students from the lower, middle and upper sections choreographed and performed wonderful dance performances. Cultural activities are very important to build confidence and aid in personality development , which is why our team highly encourages the students to perform.

What a beautiful way to end the year! Happy Holidays and a very Happy New Year to all!

Diwali Celebration

Diwali, the festival of new beginnings and the triumph of good over evil, was celebrated with full zeal and enthusiasm at Sandesham.

The day started off with sweets and gifts distribution by our guest followed by diya making competition and speech competition. Junior class had organized a beautiful cultural programme with the assistance of their teacher Mrs. Tilottama. Sandesham is very grateful for the immense effort the teachers and volunteers put to make this event a huge success. Happy Diwali everyone!

This year India celebrated 150th birth anniversary of the Father of our Nation, Mahatma Gandhi whom many refer to as Bapu fondly. Pandit Lal Bahadur Shastri's birth anniversary is also on October 2nd. Lal Bahadur Shastri dedicated his entire life towards the welfare of poor.

Sandesham held a speech competition in honor of Mahatma Gandhi and La Bahadur Shastri. Students participated in all the three categories: junior, middle and senior, and were awarded prizes.

Distribution of notebooks

Underprivileged children struggle on a daily basis to get access to basic educational materials like books and stationery. Even though they have the capability to study higher, they are sometimes forced to quit due to lack of resources and financial hardships. To encourage education, team Sandesham distributes notebooks and stationary at regular intervals to all the students of the evening classes.

The children who received these notebooks were quite happy and this provided the necessary encouragement to continue our endeavors about social upliftment.

Teachers Day at Sandesham

Teachers Day is celebrated on September 5th in India and is a day to express the love and gratitude we feel towards those who have taught us in life.

Teachers day took off with a greeting card making competition followed by a student fashion show. Students delivered speeches with full confidence.
A parent teacher meeting was held later where all parents took great interest in their children's education and welfare. Health and safety was one of the topics that was discussed in detail with the parents.

Special thanks to Mrs. Archana Prem, Mrs. Rita Sood, and Mrs. Neeta Lamba in helping us organize this event with our staff members.

Yoga classes

From coping with challenges to gaining self-awareness, yoga for kids has a wide range of benefits. Sandesham volunteer Aditi is dedicated to teaching yoga at our center.

Yoga helps kids to relax, relieve stress and anxiety, sleep better, improve emotional regulation, increase empathy, and improve mood and affect. Yoga helps to improve memory and cognitive function by creating focus within. Aditi taught some basic yoga poses and breathing exercises that the kids can continue doing at home.

Rakhi Making Competition

Sandesham held a rakhi making competition in all sections and encouraged students to participate and bring along spear decoration items with them. Rakhi is a culturally important tradition in India, and making it is both fun and important in showing cultural pride. Congrats to all winners and participants as well!

Rakhi is made for Raksha Bandhan, a festival celebrating the bonds between family, mainly brother and sister. Here at Sandesham, the students are one big family, so a rakhi making competition seemed perfect and was just that. Thanks to all those who helped set up the event and great job to all the students, who all made beautiful rakhi and showed the eternal love they have for everyone at Sandesham too.

Drawing, Dance, and Declaration Competition

At GIP Mall, our students participated in drawing, dance, and speech competitions. Drawing, dance, and speech are all important to keep as hobbies, and our students showed they are proficient in them. Congratulations to both Salma for a first place in speech and to Manmohan for second place in painting and great job to all those who participated!

At GIP mall, there were dance, drawing, and speech competitions with students from around the area. Sandesham students also participated and did quite well, as Salma placed first in speech and Manmohan placed second in painting. Thanks to all those who participated and all those who helped with the event and congratulations to all!

Independence Day Celebration

Pride in India is plentiful, and on August 13th, Sandesham celebrated with beautiful performances, amazing team members, enthusiastic students and an overall prideful environment. Thanks to everyone who made this possible!

On August 13th, Sandesham celebrated Indian Independence Day with a cultural program, eco-friendly seed distributions, refreshments, and a small story telling by guest speaker Surabhi Ji. Thanks to the great performances and team members who made it all possible, the students had a great time and a prideful environment took over Sandesham for the day. Can't wait till next year!

Environmentally Friendly Paper Bags

The students were taught by Say No to Plastic to avoid using plastic bags and taught how to make environmentally friendly paper bags out of readily available materials to use instead. The goal is to teach the students to help the planet by reducing plastic pollution and waste through the use of easily made paper bags.

Say No to Plastic is an initiative taken by Sandesham to help underprivileged kids help the environment. Under the supervision of Ruchika Chaudhary and Poonam Goel, they gave demonstrations to the students on how to make reusable, environmentally conscious paper bags out of old newspapers and other household items to use instead of plastic bags, which cause plastic pollution and are harmful to the environment due to their inability to be degraded easily. Thanks to them for all their help!

English Grammar Books

The students received ninth grade level English Grammar Books, completely sponsored by Sandesham. Learning English is a useful skill and with the help of the volunteer teachers, these students can now be better prepared for the outside world.

Thanks to Sandesham and the volunteers, the students will now be learning complex english grammar to be better prepared for success in their futures. We hope to see these students studying hard and learning as much as possible with the help of the teachers and staff.

National School of Drama Qualifiers

Three of our students, Imran, Asif, and Shivani, qualified for the National School of Drama. They completed a screening and the summer training course. All fees were paid for by Sandesham. We are so very proud of all three of them!

Water Overflow System: A Student Invention

Our student, Raj Ali made a water overflow alarm to alert users whenever water is left running in order to reduce water waste. His invention is an important step in solving the water issues in India and acknowledges the importance of conserving water. Through his creativity and education, Raj was able to invent a solution that helps solve an enormous problem in India, and we are very proud of him.

In India, water is becoming more and more scarce. Children in 100 million homes lack water due to lack of government planning, increased corporate privatization, government corruption, and the extensive use of drilled wells in rural areas. Conserving water, therefore, would be instrumental in helping soothe the pains caused by the lack of water by wasting less so more can be used. Raj's invention alerts whenever water overflows, a constant occurrence in many Indian homes when people forget to turn off sinks and such. Through his education from Sandesham and natural sense of innovation, Raj was able to create an alarm to conserve water effectively and take a step in solving the issue of water shortage in India. Congratulations to him for this tremendous invention!

Punctuality and Attendance Awards

Going to school every day is a priority at Sandesham. The goal is not to just award perfect attendance for a semester or the school year but to make sure no student is left behind in studies and struggling due to attendance.

It was amazing to see so many students getting 100% attendance awards. They were also rewarded for punctuality and discipline.

International Women's Day at Sandesham

The theme for International Women’s Day 2019 this year is “Think equal, build smart, innovate for change”. At Sandesham, we are striving to create unprecedented opportunities for women and girls to play an active role in building sustainable infrastructure and promoting gender equality.

Our chief guest this year was India's top model Mahir Pandhi. Sandesham welcomed our guests with potted plants as gifts.

The other fun activities were cooking, dance and singing competitions for the mothers of our students and winners received meaningful prizes.

We had group counseling for all the mothers of our students on personal hygiene and distributed sanitary napkins.

Travel bags were distributed by Niti Pandhi to all the attendees. It was wonderful to see team Sandesham in full swing, organizing and conducting the show with so much dedication and commitment.

The success of the event was evident from the smiles and content on the faces of the guests and the participants. A big thanks to Team Sandesham!

Congratulations to Suhani Yadav, Soni Yadav and Akash Yadav on outstanding performance and scoring above 82 % in their respective schools��. Akash achieved 3rd rank in his school and Shivani Yadav got 2nd rank in grade 8th. Congratulations and kudos to our staff teachers and members for providing excellent education on one to one basis to all the students based on their needs. We are very proud of these students.

As a reward all children were given biscuit boxes. Also notebooks were distributed for the new session.

Sandesham: Looking back

Sandesham has been around many years and every year we have been able to accomplish a little more to help make a difference in our community. Some of the highlights that are worth mentioning:

Earth day is celebrated every year to demonstrate the significance of environmental protection. Children are educated on water conservation, the significance of preserving earth's resources, and how to use recyclable material instead of plastic. Planting trees is an important activity which is encouraged throughout the year.
As Margaret Mead said, "Never doubt that a small group of thoughtfully committed citizens can change the world. Indeed, it's the only thing that ever has."

Sports day is organized throughout the year at Sandesham which includes sack race, socks and shoe races, balancing the book, 100 meter race and so forth. Playing sports helps kids in strengthening the immune system, maintaining physical coordination, enhancing body strength and thus keeps the mind peaceful, sharp and active with improved concentration.

Our Health Camps educate and create healthy habits in the children so they can take and grow with them. We also offer free dental, eye exams to both the children and their parents. Main focus of these camps is health and hygiene. We also have had yoga instructors provide them basic yoga training. Besides education we provide fruits and eggs to the children. During summer months lemonade is a must. We give lemons to the children to not only make lemonade for themselves but also for their family to help them withstand the torturous Delhi heat.

Cultural activities occur every few months at Sandesham. They are organized to promote personal development in the children. The theme for the activities are based on the season or upcoming festival. Children get a platform to showcase their talent and also build confidence with the in house speeches, skits, dances, songs, painting, or fancy dress competitions. Children are also encouraged to make handicrafts (paper bags, diyas, rakhis, greeting cards) and Sandesham has set up stalls to demonstrate their creativity.

Generosity is another name for Sandesham. Our members have been very kind and donated shoes to each student and the teachers. Basic necessity items are consistently being distributed throughout the year. For example, before summer, every child was given a water bottle and before winter, clothes were distributed. These little acts of kindness have made a huge impact in the children's lives and we can see a tremendous improvement in their lifestyle, hygiene and health.

Our biggest achievement this year was getting 20 of our children admitted in Lord Mahavira school at half of the tuition fee per month.

Volunteering knows no age limit

Volunteers are ordinary people with extraordinary hearts. They offer the gift of their time to teach, to listen, to help, to inspire, to build, and to grow. One such amazing volunteer is our 88 year old Shri R.S. Pasrija. He is truly an inspiration to all of us. Our youngest volunteer is 14 year old Aavya who is fully devoted in teaching our senior class.

Our staff volunteers are always on their toes trying to make every student a success story. A big thanks to all of them.

Republic Day Celebrations

Republic day marks a very important day in our country's history. On this date in the year 1950 India's constitution came into force completing the country's transition toward becoming an independent republic.

Sandesham celebrated this day with full zeal and enthusiasm. Multiple events were planned on this day which included a skit on Jesus Christ and a debate competition on the topic, "Should women join Defense Services".

The students executed the skit with perfection. Our amazing staff had put in a lot of effort coaching and guiding them. The Debate was won by team Tarini in favor of the argument. Yes, women should join defense services and they can conquer anything and everything.

Trip to the National Science Center

The national science museum in Delhi is a great place for science enthusiasts, a place where children and adults can all marvel at the miracle of science. Sandesham took 17 senior students on December 2nd to this museum with the objective of not only encouraging them but also to increase their inquisitiveness about history and science.

There was a lot of excitement among these young adults and each were provided with Sandesham ID cards made by Anita ji. Everyone assembled at the science centers reception amphitheater to get a brief overview and then proceeded to the galleries. All the kids were super excited with the hands-on participatory exhibits.

Overall it was a day of learning in a fun environment and the kids came back motivated and energized to learn more. Thanks to all the volunteers who made this day possible.

Children's Day Celebration 2018

Children's Day is unique for its honoring of the children throughout the world. Several countries have adopted different dates for observing the International Children's Day. In India, the day commemorates the birth anniversary of the first Prime Minister of Independent India, Jawaharlal Nehru. Observed every year on November 14, the day is exciting in every school-going child. Sandesham celebrated it on the 16th with full enthusiasm with multiple sports activities, prizes and refreshments, after all it is all about cherishing our kids & having fun.

Salma and Anamika delivered the speech on Children's Day to all. This was followed by the sports activities which included lemon-spoon and shoe-socks races. Lemon and spoon race is a sporting event in which children had to balance a lemon upon a spoon and race with it to the finishing line. Children developed their concentration level and patience through this activity. Similarly in the shoe and socks race children had to run and quickly wear their shoe and socks and run back to the finishing line.

Prize distribution for the race as well as the Diya competition was held followed by refreshments. It was a happy and cheerful day made possible by our wonderful volunteers and refreshment sponsors.

It's that wonderful time of the year when we celebrate one of our most important festival Diwali. The festival gets its name from the row of clay lamps (deepa) that we light outside our homes to symbolize the inner light that protects from spiritual darkness. Sandesham organized a Diya making competition for Diwali and wishes everyone a very happy and prosperous Diwali.

Act of Kindness

Good eye health starts with the food on your plate. But some children and adults suffer from rare conditions where their eyesight degenerates over time. One of our Sandesham students, Dilshad who is currently in 6th grade is suffering from a failing eyesight issue. Our volunteer Mrs. Anita Sen arranged to get his eyes examined and get proper eye care. Our hope and prayers are with Dilshad ! Sandesham has pledged to help save his eyes and would be appreciative of any help others can provide.

We are very grateful to Samby Opticals for providing glasses and doing a full checkup of Dilshad's eyes. We need more volunteers like Anita ji to bring hope and light in these children.

Baking and Cooking class

Based on some research studies cooking programs positively influence children’s food-related preferences, attitudes, and behaviors. We at Sandesham believe that this is a unique way to teach how to improve the “important [culinary] life skills”. This is very important in increasing confidence and pride in cooking abilities and can also inspire some youths to “seriously consider post-secondary school education in this culinary field as a future academic goal”.

Ridhi Vasudeva, a 10th grade student of Pathways school, demonstrated how to make Marble cake and Bread Pizza.

Sandesham is an advocate for programs like these that are highly effective in improving perceptions of food as “healthier, more fresh”. This not only improves student engagement but also impacts their home environments by transferring good habits. A big thanks to Ridhi Vasudeva for taking this initiative.

Sandesham has been focusing on improving the education of poor and minority students. Not surprisingly, we now see real gains. Some of the students are shining in their schools and it is a proud moment for us to highlight their accomplishments.

Kudos to Mukesh for an excellent school performance. We have other students like Shivani in class 8th who has been continuously showing improvement and dreams of becoming a pilot one day. The entire Sandesham team is fully supportive and will help her achieve this beautiful dream.

We also encourage students and help them build their confidence. Kartik of our junior class demonstrated his confidence in one of our classes and we are very proud of him.

We encourage everyone to donate their used books so we can keep adding to our much needed library here at Sandesham. We are very grateful to Rashmi Chaudhary for donating 6th, 7th and 8th standard books.

Going forward our school timing is 3:30 PM to 5:30 PM. A big thanks to all our incredible volunteers to make this happen.

2nd October marks the anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi's birth in the year 1869. Gandhiji, "Father of our Nation", is fondly remembered for his contributions towards the Indian freedom struggle. Sandesham had organized a cultural program followed by prize distribution for the competitions that were held earlier in the year.

Prizes were distributed to winners of rakhi making competition, card making competition, and Teacher's day celebrations.

One of our talented students Gunjan recited a poem which was composed by her.

All our members and teachers were there to offer their support to the children and sweets were distributed which brought a beautiful smile on all their faces.

September 5th is celebrated all over India to express love and gratitude towards our teachers. The role of the teachers in any society is irreplaceable since they shape the future of their society by the impact they have on their students. Our teachers are no different and are highly appreciated not only by the students but also their families. Today was a very special day at Sandesham honoring all our amazing teachers who are dedicated and committed to spreading knowledge, good values, joy and happiness all around.

Raksha Bandhan is that time of the year when the bond between a brother and sister is strengthened by a string of love and care also known as rakhi. A few days before this festival, there was a classroom rakhi making competition at Sandesham where the kids were taught how to make rakhis using simple materials. It was an evening of creativity and fun with snacks and prizes.

There was so much talent and creativity and it was great to see the children so engrossed in the competition making beautiful, colorful vibrant rakhis.

Marvelous rakhis being made by our students. Smiles in their faces and spark in their eyes speaks volumes. Congratulations to the Sandesham team for showering so much love and encouragement to these children and truly making a difference in their lives.

Independence Day Celebration

Independence day was celebrated with beautiful dance performances, speech skits, refreshments followed by prize distribution by our chief guest. It was our privilege to have the Presidium team, Sharmila Bhomik, Principal of Satyam College of Education, President of Rotary Club and Anita ji. Our students and teachers were in full Sandesham spirit displaying the colors of our National Flag.

Congratulations to the entire Sandesham team for a well organized event and uplifting the spirit of the children. The event was a Huge Success!

Painting and Declamation Competition

This week a painting and declamation competition was held at the Garden Galleria Mall. Five of our children participated. Chief guest at the competition was welcomed by our very own Shilpi Yadav aunty.

Slash, Sobha,Neha and Asif won Consolation Prizes. It was an amazing day for Sandesham. Congratulations to all our children who participated and to Shilpi Aunty for taking this initiative.

All our amazing volunteers have been really busy educating our children and the results are coming in. Two of our students, Divya and Preeti received full marks at their schools, a direct result of outstanding guidance and education at Sandesham.

Its really nice to see members of our community helping out in educating these underprivileged children. One of our regular visitors distributed story books and non fictional books in our classes. It was a day to celebrate with the moms of all our students.

WOMEN'S DAY was celebrated on March 8th with full zeal and enthusiasm. The mothers of our underprivileged children were amazingly talented and participated in all our cultural activities such as singing competition, dance performances and poem recitals. Some of them even performed Shaayari. Kudos to these moms!

Time flies when you are having fun. Today was the last day of school and it was all about celebrating the hard work and effort all the students and volunteers put in throughout the year. Children from all three classes enjoyed snacks, cold drinks and samosas. All kids had a blast playing charades, participating in quizzes and dancing. It was a day of fun and was great to see all the beautiful smiles. There were 21 students present in junior class, 17 in senior class and 26 students in the middle class today. Kudos to our wonderful volunteer Anita Sen for making this day a huge success.

Last Working day is April 27th. Summer break starts from May 1st to July 2nd.

Anita teaching maths in our middle class. About 25 children benefitted from her instructions. She also taught General Knowledge to 21 students in the Junior class and friendly microorganisms to 16 students in our senior class. Thanks to our wonderful volunteers for making a difference in these children lives.

Hindi was taught by Chandraprabha in the middle class to 27 children. The enthusiasm for learning is evident in these kids. Kudos to all our wonderful volunteers!

The students received ninth grade level English Grammar Books, completely sponsored by Sandesham. Learning English is a useful skill and with the help of the volunteer teachers, these students can now be better prepared for the outside world.
